At Kuifkopvisvanger, we are passionate about bird watching.

Hence the name of the farm, cottages & rooms. The Malachite Kingfisher (Kuifkopvisvanger in Afrikaans) is what inspired the name of this tranquil Velddrif farm.
Kuifkopvisvanger is situated on the banks of the Berg River where you can enjoy a canoe ride on the river, a stroll along the riverfront or a bicycle ride along the 8km stretch.

Over the years we have identified a 180 different bird species on the farm and the marshlands. If you’re lucky you might be able to spot a few rarities!
The Wilson Phalarope is one of the rare birds that’s been spotted on the Saltpans. Birdwatchers and nature lovers can enjoy fun outings to the Saltpans, Jan Kotze can give you a tour and show you where you can find them. You absolutely MUST take your camera with as you can take the most amazing photos at the pans.
Fishing enthusiasts can try their hand at catching the big one at the train bridge over the Berg River or stay on the farm and cast off from the river banks. Fish on the menu are Kabeljou, Steenbras and Elf, have the fire ready for a lekker/delicious fish braai.

There is also a function venue and hall at a great location for your next party, wedding or family gathering.

Here tranquillity is the order of the day, with only the sounds of nature and the Fish Eagle as the soundtrack to your stay it is the ideal spot to unwind and recharge. Come for the day or stay a few days, we look forward to seeing you soon.

We have 7 fully equipped cottages with linen and bath towels provided. All the cottages have inside & outside braais so you can braai any time of the day or night. You can relax on the patio enjoying sundowners or snuggle on the couch relaxing next to the fire.


Apart from the cottages we offer camping sites with power outlets and full ablution facilities with nets on the ground and trees to block any wind.

We also have campsites where you step out of your tent into the Berg River – watch the high tide!

The 19 stand camping sites with power outlets, nets on the ground, trees for windbreaks and hot showers in the ablution facilities.

You cannot be closer to the water’s edge with built fireplaces. Wood for the braai is sold on the farm.
